West Bengal is an eastern Indian state located in the Bay of Bengal, bordering Bangladesh in the east and Nepal and Bhutan in the north.  The state’s capital is Kolkata which also happens to be the largest city in the state.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in West Bengal is the beautiful town of Darjeeling. Known for the famous Kanchenjunga mountain range, which houses the Tiger Hills, it stands at an altitude of 8586 metres, and is the highest peak in India, and third highest mountain in the world. Darjeeling is also known for its tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, a UNESCO World heritage site.  Sunderbans Tiger reserve is another place of interest if you are an animal lover, particularly famous for the Royal Bengal tigers. It is also home to a variety of bird, reptile and invertebrate species, including the salt-water crocodile. The Sunderbans are a part of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. While in Kolkata, you cannot miss the famous Victoria Memorial Hall, a large marble building dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria, which has now been converted into a museum and is an architectural spectacle. Other places of interest include the Belur Math, Eden Gardens, Dakshineshwar Kali temple and many more tourist attractions. West Bengal is also famous for its culinary delights, which is also famously known as the land of maach(fish) and bhaat(rice).  Nearly every Bengali community eat meat or fish. Different kinds of kebabs, biryanis, roasted chicken are the famous local cuisines. Amongst the dessert, mishit doi (sweet yogurt), shondesh and rossogolla are the traditional Bengali sweets, extremely popular across the state.
